Nespresso Gourmet Weeks at Schüpbärg-Beizli

It is only a few weeks back I was talking about the Nespresso Gourmet Weeks.. and now they are here!
From October 25th until November 15th 2015 you can experience high gastronomy at dinner or lunch at one of the 15 top restaurants partners of this initiative at very reasonable rates.
And let's say it is just what I did on Saturday for lunch.. I had my Nespresso Gourmet Week experience at Restaurant Schüpbärg-Beizli near Bern.
The restaurant is owned and run by chef Christoph Hunziker. Winner of the prestigious "Bocuse d'Or" for Swizerland in 2014 , ranked 12th in " Bocuse d'Or " Europe and 3rd in the 2015 semi-final of the "Cuisinier d'Or" the career of the chef has already taken of in a stellar way but Christoph knows how to stay grounded.
Born and bread in the area of the Beizli he certainly hasn't forgot his roots and decided to own a restaurant in the place he calls home. In the middle of farms and fields but not far from Bern the Beizli has certainly all the good producers at its door steps. In fact chef Hunziker was just telling me how the prunes from today's dessert comes from one of his neighbours..
In fact one of the main philosophy of the restaurant is to be "local" and buy local as much as possible.. and freshness, quality..are also key for chef Hunziker.
Warm and with a friendly atmosphere the Beizli is truly a gem in the middle of nature.. however how
haute-cuisine would go down in a little village like this where the clientele is used to less fancy dishes and more traditional dishes was the question which needed to be answered.
Well talking with chef Hunziker I discovered that initially also him wasn't right sure about the reaction of the locals and how this new concept would go down. Chef Hunziker however was pleasantly surprised last year when many of his local customers and also new ones called in to try his creations for the Nespresso Gourmet Weeks. A successful story for chef Hunziker and The Beizli and for this reason the experience is happening again this year with an even greater success judging by the number of reservations the restaurant has already received for this year's edition.

Chef Hunziker worked hard to create a great menu which combined perfectly haute-cuisine with the Nespresso Grand-Crus. You only need to look at the menu to see that the coffee inspiration is always present: from the starter where chicken breast is served with dried figs in a Vanilio nut coat or  the champignons cream macchiato soup it is really the case of saying Nespresso..what else?
Anyway the lunch was delicious and I truly enjoyed it!
The freshness and the quality of the ingredients really shined through and I particularly loved the Champignons Cream Soup Macchiato..so creamy and tasty! But I also really enjoyed the main course with the trio of Natura Beef..beautifully presented and full of flavour it was a pleasure to eat.
I must admit after three courses I was feeling pretty full but of course I had to find some space left for the delicious home-made Schüpbärg-Beizli Pralines and a Nespresso of course..so good!

"Nespresso Gourmet Weeks gives us the oppurtunity to combine top level gastronomy and exclusive everyday food in a creative way. Our restaurant's philosophy: Do not just do good, but also what is simple very well. Selected ingredients, seasonality and regionality are central for us. This includes excellent coffee.
It is usually the last impression which a guest takes of a restaurant"
