Locarno Film Festival Opening Night

Last night in a sold out Piazza Grande for the opening night of the 67th Edition of the Film Festival, Director Luc Besson made a surprise appeareance to launch its movie Lucy.
It was a short but very appreciated visit as he had to go and catch a plane to Paris the same night.
As for the Opening Night the Piazza Grande had been announced sold out already in the morning so people had been queuing early to try to get the best seats available !
I must say the atmosphere in the Piazza was breathtaking, to watch a movie outdoor in such a unique location was truly special.

The Jury of the Festival

After the introduction by the President of the Festival Mr.Marco Solari and by the Artistic Director Mr. Carlo Chatrian of the jury and guests, the audience was ready to enjoy the film!
The eagerly awaited sci-fi film Lucy, starring Scarlett Johansson and Morgan Freeman has already proven to be a hit in the States. The film sees Scarlett Johansson playing the part of a woman who is forced to be a drug mule but that unfortunately ends up absorbing some of the drug she is carrying in her body. The drug gives her superhuman power and so she decides to turns the tables on her captors and becomes a merciless warriors, evolved beyond human logic.
As a lover of action movies I enjoyed the film although some of the scenes were a bit strong for my liking, but that is just my personal opinion.

Last night the audience had also the great chance to welcome special guest Melanie Griffith, who seemed to love the atmosphere of Locarno as she enjoyed taking selfies of the audience while on stage.

I really loved the atmospere in the Piazza and honestly can't wait to see another movie there again, which will probably be on Friday if rain does not decide to spoil the night.
After the movie I headed to Moët & Chandon opening party, held at the stunning Villa San Quirico about 7 minutes away from Locarno. Can't wait to tell you all about the party in my next post!
